A former Niceville police officer was shot and killed by his father in Midway in Santa Rosa County on Tuesday. Santa Rosa County Sheriff Bob Johnson said 29-year-old Erich Reitz, stabbed his mother and  father, who then shot him with a 9-millimeter pistol. Reitz died from his wounds at West Florida Hospital. His parents were taken to Baptist Hospital where they are in stable condition. The State Attorney’s Office does not anticipate that Reitz’s father will face criminal charges.  The Niceville Police Department terminated Reitz’s employment in February 2018 because of psychological instability.
