EMS BILLING PROBLEMS

Escambia County Comptroller Pam Childers says the Emergency Services Department is about six months behind on ambulance billings of about 9.6 million dollars. Childers said delaying billing will have a negative impact on cash and collections, create cash flow issues, and result in a loss of interest revenue. She said current staffing levels appear unable to catch up the backlog. Problems with a new billing system are said to have contributed to the problem and Escambia County Commissioners may have to bring in an outside contractor to help with the backlog. Commissioner Jeff Bergosh said if the problem is not resolved in about 40 days the County will have to use its general fund to support EMS operations.
