About 26.3 billion robocalls were placed to US phone numbers last year and the Federal Communications Commission is working to fight the problem. The FCC will now allow cell phone carriers to block robocalls and customers will be able to opt out of services if they don’t want them. However, it is unclear if customers will have to pay a fee for the cost of the program. The FCC also said that many robocalls are legal including those which come from legitimate sources like banks, schools or pharmacies.
