SIKES BRIDGE WORK

Major rehabilitation work on the 45-year-old Bob Sikes Bridge that connects Gulf Breeze to Pensacola Beach, should begin before the end of the year. Escambia County traffic engineers said the bridge needs extensive work to extend its life span another 10 to 15 years. David Forte, director of engineering for Escambia County, said the work should begin in November or December and much of it will take place at night when bridge traffic isn’t heavy. The project will take a year to complete and will involve a complete rehabilitation of the bridge structure.
