Former Escambia County Clerk of Court Ernie Lee Magaha, Sr. has passed away. Magaha was born in Jay and graduated from Century High School. He served in the Merchant Marines and graduated from Auburn University with a degree in economics in 1950. He was elected as the clerk of the court of record in 1956 and held that office for the next 56 years and was said to have been the longest serving elected official in Florida. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church in Pensacola. A private family burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.
