PENSACOLA BEACH TRAFFIC PROBLEMS

Escambia County Commissioners are considering ways to deal with traffic delays at the Pensacola beach toll booths after traffic backed up through Gulf Breeze and onto the Pensacola Bay Bridge for hours last weekend. Commissioner Jeff Bergosh proposed the county adopt a system that would allow county staff to press a panic switch during severe traffic backups to let cars go through the toll plaza without being charged a fee until traffic had been cleared. Commissioner Robert Bender, who represents District 4, which includes Pensacola Beach, suggested a system known as “toll-by-plate.”  Drivers who go through a lane without a SunPass are mailed a bill for $1.00, plus an administration fee of $2.50 per month. People would only be charged one fee per monthly bill.
