Starting next week Pensacola will make eight blocks of North Palafox Street more bicycle friendly. Construction will begin Monday to add bike lanes and reconfigure parking along Palafox Street between Garden and Cervantes streets. The section between Cervantes and Wright streets will go from two lanes in each direction to one lane in each direction. The current outside lane will be transformed into bike lanes and on-street parallel parking in both directions. Between Wright and Garden streets, the lanes will be modified to allow both motorists and bicyclists to use the same lane. Parking on that section will not change. Gulf Coast Traffic Engineers has been hired to do the $65,000 project.
