WHALE BEACHES ITSELF IN NAVARRE

A rare, 13-foot-long female Beaked Whale was found washed up on the beach on Gulf Islands National Seashore Monday afternoon, just east of Navarre. Britany Baldrica, Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge Marine Mammal Stranding Team coordinator, said the deep-diving species is not seen close to shore, which was an indicator it was sick. It was alive when it beached itself but died shortly after rescuers arrived on the scene. A necropsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
