PENSACOLA BEACH TOLL BOOTHS

Escambia County commissioners have decided to go back to two designated Sun Pass transponder lanes and two cash toll lanes for the Pensacola Beach toll system through Labor Day. County Commissioner Robert Bender, whose district includes the beach, said Florida Turnpike Enterprise officials told the county it cannot continue to switch the tolls intermittently from manned to the toll-by-plate system. However, the toll can be eliminated for all booths to allow traffic to flow when it becomes too congested and is a safety hazard. Commissioners also directed county traffic engineers to study building another lane to allow traffic to flow through the toll booths onto Fort Pickens Road without a lane change.
