OYSTER THEFT

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the theft of more than 17,000 oysters worth about $10,000 from a site in East Bay leased by the Pensacola Bay Oyster Company. Owner Donnie McMahon said the community could be in danger if the oysters are sold illegally because they need to be kept at certain temperatures and eaten within a specific time period to prevent consumers from getting sick. He is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people responsible for the theft. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
