The Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office says a Crestview woman was scammed out of $1,500 by a caller who said her social security number had been stolen and she had a warrant for her arrest. The woman was told to purchase gift cards within an hour and provide the card numbers to pay off her warrant, which she did. The sheriff’s office says anyone getting a call asking to purchase gift cards and provide the numbers to avoid arrest, pay a fine, or anything similar, is being conned.
