GULF SHORES DEATH INVESTIGATION

The Gulf Shores Police Department says a man died yesterday after shooting at officers and then falling eight stories from the balcony of a condominium. After an officer tried to make a traffic stop, the driver, Russell Mallette of Sparks Nevada, refused to stop, then jumped from his car and ran into the Ocean House Condominium. Mallette and the officer got into a struggle on the 5^th floor and Mallette was able to get the officer’s gun, and started shooting. The two exchanged gunfire and Mallette made his way up to the 8th floor of the condo and went over the balcony. It is not known if he jumped or if the fall was a cause of an injury. Mallette died on the scene and an autopsy is scheduled to determine the cause of death.
