PENSACOLA POLICE OFFICER FIRED

The Pensacola Police Department has fired the officer who shot and killed a man this summer. Detective Daniel Siemen was terminated for violating the department’s use of deadly force policy. The shooting led to protests and demonstrations calling for reforms within the department. On July 5th, 28-year-old Tymar Crawford, was shot and killed near “C” and Brainerd streets after he fled on foot from an attempted traffic stop, reportedly struggled with police, disarmed an officer during the struggle and was then shot. Chief Tommi Lyter said the department completed an internal investigation into the shooting that was separate from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s investigation. The results of FDLE’s investigation are being reviewed the State Attorney’s Office, and a grand jury will determine whether a crime took place.
