BAY COUNTY FEMA REIMBURSEMENT

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has agreed to reimburse Bay County 159 million dollars, which will give the county 161 million dollars in federal money for recovery costs from Hurricane Michael. The county borrowed 250 million dollars to cover costs, mainly debris cleanup. However, interest on the loans isn’t reimbursable and the county paid 7.5 million dollars in interest on the loans this year. However, getting enough money to repay much of the loan, will reduce interest considerably. Panama City Mayor Greg Brudnicki said the city has collected about 15 million dollars in FEMA reimbursement, but is paying $6,000 a day in interest on the 75 million dollars it borrowed.
