An investigator with the Walton County Sheriff’s Office is being credited with saving a man from jumping to his death. Deputies responded to a report of a man standing on a railing of the overpass over County Road 183, preparing to jump. Investigator Jamie Ragan, who is also the Department Chaplain, came to the scene and was able to convince the man to come down. He said the man was having a hard time because drugs had taken control of his life and he didn’t see a way out. The man was taken to the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center for evaluation and treatment and Ragan says he has continued to stay in touch with him.
