The 2019 UWF Athletics Hall of Fame has inducted three former University of West Florida athletes. Naiara Fernandes, from Brazil, helped lift UWF volleyball into another level with record-setting performances. Chelsea Palmer led the UWF women’s soccer team to the 2012 national championship and Pensacola’s Dick Appleyard was team captain on the 1974 men’s basketball team and he and his wife, Carolyn, also a UWF graduate, were members of the UWF Football Founders that helped establish the football program.
