The city of Key West is banning sunscreens that contain chemicals that could harm coral reefs. The sale of sunscreens in Key West will be illegal starting in 2021. However, Florida lawmakers may outlaw the sunscreen ban and make sure no other local governments impose similar ordinances. Bills filed in the Legislature put local governments against state government and environmentalists against dermatologists over the issue of protecting coral reefs or helping prevent skin cancer.
