Florida’s attorney general says more than a million dollars is available to repay businesses that were conned by what is being called a “government imposter scheme.” Attorney General Ashley Moody said Thomas Henry Fred, Jr., and his affiliated businesses sent letters to small businesses designed to look like an invoice from a government agency, demanding an $84.00 payment for labor law posters or face fines of up to $17,000. Those posters are available for free from the government. A statement from Moody’s office said more than $800,000 was paid by more than 9,000 businesses.
