CITY OF PENSACOLA CYBERATTACK UPDATE

The city of Pensacola is spending $140,000 to hire a company to evaluate the extent of a cyberattack that began December 7th and crippled the city’s computer systems for several days. Mayor Grover Robinson said an audit will determine how the attack happened and what the city should do next. City officials confirmed the attack was ransomware, where data is encrypted until a ransom is paid to get the data restored. The City says most online services have returned to normal operation. The Mayor said cyber insurance is being considered to cover losses from any further cyberattacks.
