LAWSUIT AGAINST SHERIFF’S DEPARTMENT

An Escambia County Sheriff’s Office chief deputy has been ordered to turn over personal cellphone records as part of federal lawsuits. Those lawsuits claim that Sheriff David Morgan and other deputies were engaging in inappropriate sexual activities in the home of a woman named Leah Manning and that the department’s administration took no action. An attorney for the plaintiffs believes Chief Deputy Eric Haines may have messages in his personal cellphone related to Internal Affairs investigations. It is not said that Haines committed any sexual misconduct, but that he discussed how it should be investigated. The Sheriff’s Office has filed a motion for a summary judgment dismissing the case.
