MEDICAL EXAMINER SUES

The former chief medical examiner for District 1 is suing Escambia, Santa Rosa and Walton counties, claiming gender pay discrimination. Dr. Andrea Minyard’s resigned from her position on September 30th after serving for 14 years. The lawsuit states Dr. Minyard was being paid $250,000 per year as the interim medical examiner, while her replacement – a man – is being paid $350,000 per year, plus bonuses. Escambia County Commissioner Jeff Bergosh said her lawsuit is ridiculous and that Dr. Minyard was paid more than $700,000 per year. Bergosh said it’s been difficult finding a qualified medical examiner. He adds the counties have had to put forward more money than originally expected.
