WRONGLY CONVICTED MAN RELEASED

A man who spent nearly 43 years in Florida prisons for a crime he did not commit is asking the Florida Legislature to compensate him for the years he spent behind bars. A bill to do that has passed the House Civil Justice Subcommittee with unanimous support. It would give Clifford Williams $50,000 for each year he spent in prison, a total of 2.15 million dollars. In 1976 Williams was accused of murdering a woman in her bedroom. That conviction was thrown out this year after Jacksonville State Attorney Melissa Nelson concluded that Williams is innocent.
