A former administrative accounts clerk for the city of Milton has been arrested for intentionally deleting critical files from her city computer the day that she submitted her resignation letter. On the 9th of December, 58-year-old Deborah Cates notified the city that she would be retiring effective the next day, thn logged in and out of her city computer and left the building. The following day a supervisor tried to retrieve critical files and found they had been permanently deleted. The documents included spreadsheets tracking daily deposits, quarterly tax reports and insurance records for payments to retirees. Cates told police she had been in conflict with her supervisor for the previous three months, but had accidentally deleted the files. She was arrested and charged with fraud.
