Escambia County Commissioner Doug Underhill is sponsoring a resolution that would declare the county a Second Amendment sanctuary, making Escambia County the 27th county in Florida to adopt such a resolution. Santa Rosa County passed a similar resolution in December, three days after the terrorist attack at the Pensacola Naval Air. Commissioner Underhill said while there is a symbolic element to the resolution, it’s also about sending a message and he’s disappointed the Panhandle delegation did not bring a more aggressive pro-Second Amendment voice to Tallahassee. Underhill also said he’s opposed to the Florida law that increased the age for purchasing a handgun from 18 to 21 and considers it a violation of the Constitution.
