SANTA ROSA COUNTY RECYCLING

Problems continue for the Santa Rosa County recycling program. The county brought back its recycling program Monday after a 10-month suspension after the Emerald Coast Utilities Authority terminated its recycling contract with the county because of high contamination rates. However, County officials say the loads sent to the recycling center are still contaminated with garbage, food or other non-recyclable materials, despite a renewed campaign to educate residents about recycling requirements. ECUA can terminate the contract at any time, which it will likely do if the county sends too many contaminated recycle loads.
