The Department of Defense says two soldiers assigned to Eglin Air Force Base were killed in Afghanistan on February 8th. Sergeant 1st Class Javier Gutierrez, of San Antonio, Texas and Sergeant 1st Class Antonio Rodriguez, of Las Cruces, New Mexico – both 28 – died from wounds they suffered while engaged in combat operations. Both received posthumous promotions to Sergeant 1st Class and were awarded the Bronze Star Medal and Purple Heart.
