The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is warning the public about the cane toad, a new toad species in Florida that is dangerous to pets. The FWC said the toads are poisonous to most animals that try to bite or eat them and they encourage landowners to kill cane toads on their own property whenever possible. The Cane Toad is native to South America, Central America, Mexico, and extreme southern Texas. Symptoms of Cane Toad poisoning in pets include: excessive drooling and extremely red gums, head-shaking, loss of coordination and sometimes convulsions.
