TOWN OF CENTURY FINANCIAL EMERGENCY

The town of Century is facing a financial emergency. An audit found that emergency conditions exist because of missed debt service payments, not transferring payroll taxes in a timely manner and issuing payroll checks without sufficient funds in the payroll account. Assets exceeded liabilities at the close of the year by 5.8 million dollars and the town failed to make debt service payments in 2017, 2018 and 2019 on gas system revenue bonds. The auditors recommended that the town develop long and short-term financial plans to improve its financial condition. The Town says they will submit a corrective action plan to address the audit findings.
