PENSACOLA POLICE HEADQUARTERS LOCKDOWN

The Pensacola Police department headquarters was briefly placed on lockdown and closed to the public yesterday after three officers may have been exposed to fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid that is similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent. The National Institute on Drug Abuse says the drug can be dangerous to first responders who collect, handle, process and store it as evidence. Three officers came into contact with drug evidence and were transported to Baptist Hospital as a precaution and all reported to be fine. The department resumed normal operations after a brief closure.
