The State Attorney’s Office says an Escambia County deputy who shot a suspect on Limerick Lane off Chemstrand Road last December was justified in his actions. On December 11, 2019, Deputy Douglas Shoemaker and Sergeant Melissa Lee responded to a report of a man who said he was suicidal. When they knocked on a door Daniel Hux opened the door and fired at them. Shoemaker was hit four times, but returned fire and Hux was struck twice. Both were transported to the hospital and both survived. Hux is charged with attempted murder of a law enforcement office and remains in the Escambia County Jail without bond, awaiting trial.
