The Okaloosa County Commission has unanimously agreed to close the Island Fishing Pier to the public, and all public and private beaches will also remain closed through April 30th. The pier had been closed to everyone but fishermen, but they have not been abiding by social distancing standards of staying at least six feet apart from one another. The closure was recommended by Sheriff Larry Ashley. Despite the objections of several members of the public, the board also approved keeping all beaches in the county’s jurisdiction closed through April, rather than allowing some beaches to open for restricted hours to locals only.
