Milton Mayor Heather Lindsay says the City of Milton may need to order a shelter-in-place for all city residents. Such an order would need to be drafted, reviewed by residents and then approved by a majority of the City Council. Lindsay said she is reviewing similar orders in other counties in both Florida and other states as she drafts a potential order for Milton. Lindsay said government services, law enforcement, construction sites, hardware stores, grocery stores and farmers’ markets to be classified as essential businesses, but she may face an uphill battle getting full council support for a shelter-in-place order. She would also need the support of the Santa Rosa County Commission.
