Because of computer problems there is said to be a backlog of more than 500,000 Floridians now awaiting unemployment benefits and thousands more are still struggling to file a claim. To try to help with the delays Governor Ron DeSantis is now allowing paper applications to be filed. DeSantis called the website problems totally unacceptable and has increased manpower and computer capacity for the site. Congressional Democrats want the Governor to increase the state’s $275-per-week benefits, extend the current 12-week cap on benefits to 26 weeks, and make benefits payable from when a person was laid off.
