Now that economic stimulus money is beginning to be sent to citizens around the country, Florida Attorney General Ashley Moody has issued a consumer alert to warn Floridians that scammers are ready to try to steal those payments. The vast majority of citizens will receive the payments automatically and it will require no action on their part. Moody said Floridians should not provide any personal or financial information in response to an unsolicited message; They should not trust caller ID displays claiming a call is from the IRS; and they should never make any advance payment in order to secure or expedite a benefit.
