As if the coronavirus pandemic wasn’t enough, another forecast is calling for an active Atlantic hurricane season. The Weather Channel, is predicting 18 named storms, nine hurricanes and four major hurricanes of Category 3 or higher, more than Colorado State University, which called for 16 named storms. AccuWeather was already forecasting between 14 and 18 named systems. An average storm season has 12 named storms, six hurricanes and three major hurricanes, but much of the Gulf of Mexico is about 4 degrees warmer than normal, while the tropical Atlantic temperatures are 1.5 to 3 degrees above normal.
