Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson is asking the U.S. Space Command – currently based in Colorado Springs, Colorado – to consider Pensacola as the command’s home base. The Air Force is providing communities who meet the screening criteria an opportunity to nominate themselves as potential candidate locations. Pensacola meets the minimum requirements and has submitted a letter expressing interest. A U.S. Space Command headquarters location is expected to be selected in early 2021 and it will take about six years to construct the necessary facilities.
