CONFEDERATE MONUMENT

Although many U.S. cities are removing Confederate monuments, Pensacola Mayor Grover Robinson says he doesn’t believe the time is right to remove the Pensacola monument. An online petition on Change Dot Org that calls for Robinson to remove the monument, has been circulating on social media since Saturday and has more than 5,000 signatures. Pensacola’s Confederate monument was erected on Lee Square in 1891. Virginia Governor Ralph Northam announced a statue of Confederate General Robert E. Lee in the state’s capital city will be removed as soon as possible, the city of Birmingham has removed a 50-foot Confederate monument and Mobile removed a statue of Confederate Admiral Raphael Semmes without any public announcement.
