NEW BLUE ANGELS AIRCRAFT

The Boeing Aircraft Company has delivered the first of eleven          F/A-18 Super Hornet aircraft to the Blue Angels. That first plane is now undergoing testing and evaluation at the Patuxent River Naval Air Station in Maryland. The flight demonstration team will fly a customized version of the F/A-18 which has an additional oil tank for smoke effects, a special fuel system that allows them to fly upside down, and a civilian-compatible navigation system. The Blue Angels have flown Boeing aircraft for more than 50 years, starting with the F-4 Phantom in 1969.
