FORMER FLORIDA SENATE PRESIDENT DIES

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis directed that flags be flown at half-staff yesterday to honor former state senator Gwen Margolis who died Tuesday at the age of 85. Margolis, who was from Miami-Dade, was the first woman to serve as the leader of a state Senate. She served 30 years in the Florida Legislature, including three different times in the Senate and was Senate president in 1990-92, and the last Democrat to lead the chamber. Margolis also served in the House of Representatives from 1974-80 and on the Miami-Dade County Commission from 1993-2002.
