A Florida Congresswoman from Orlando wants the six-month Atlantic hurricane season extended. Stephanie Murphy sent a letter to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration requesting that the start of the official hurricane season begin in mid-May instead of June 1st. Murphy said there has been at least one named storm before June 1st in each of the past six years and the current season does not accurately predict major storm activity could result in readiness being compromised. NOAA says they will discuss the topic with her.
