FLORIDA BANKS

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Florida’s 102 banks and thrifts posted a combined loss of 281 million dollars in the first quarter, the weakest performance since the Great Recession. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation says the number of unprofitable banks based in Florida doubled over the year to 18 and the drop in bank earnings is a reflection of deteriorating economic activity.
