It is unlikely the Palafox Market likely will reopen in July as downtown leaders had hoped. Lissa Dees, executive director of the Downtown Improvement Board, said that because of a rise in cases of the coronavirus and large gatherings still not being permitted, the market likely won’t come back next month. Escambia County set a record Thursday, recording 92 new COVID-19 cases in a single day. Santa Rosa County also saw a sharp increase with 40 new cases.
