The Florida Department of Health says Florida set a new one-day record with 15,300 new COVID-19 cases. It is the largest single-day increase in coronavirus cases in any one state since the beginning of the pandemic. Florida is now up to 269,811 total cases with 4,346 deaths, 104 of them being non-Florida residents. Escambia County added 484 new cases, Santa Rosa County 189, Okaloosa County 155 and Walton County 23. A month ago, fewer than 5% of tests came up positive, but over the past week, the daily average exceeded 19% positive. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that even with the rising rates, he still wants the schools to reopen as scheduled next month.
