. FLORIDA FELON VOTING

The U.S.  Supreme Court says Florida felons who have completed their sentences but have not paid fees, fines and restitution can be barred from voting in the upcoming primary election. Voting rights groups had challenged the requirement as unconstitutional, The Supreme Court said the ban will remain in effect while the case is heard next month by a federal appeals court. Associate Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Ruth Bader Ginsburg and Elena Kagan opposed the order. There are about 775,000 felons in Florida who have completed their prison sentences, including some 85,000 who have registered to vote so far.
