PENSACOLA CONFEDERATE MONUMENT

The lawsuit filed by multiple groups challenging the removal of Pensacola’s Confederate monument has now been moved to a federal court. The groups said removal of the lawsuit violated constitutionally protected rights of free speech, equal protection and due process. On Monday, Bruce Partington, an attorney representing the city of Pensacola, filed a notice of removal of the lawsuit in federal court. That means a judge in the U.S. District Court of Northern Florida would decide the issues in the case. Circuit Judge Gary Bergosh had previously issued a temporary restraining order preventing the city from moving or altering the monument.
