After 44 years the Boggy Bayou Mullet Festival in Niceville has come to an end. Begun in 1976, the annual celebration featured a traditional fish fry served up with big-name country entertainers including Kenny Rogers, the Charlie Daniels Band and Tanya Tucker. Niceville City Manager Lannie Corbin said while this October’s festival would have been canceled because of the pandemic, the Mullet Festival Committee decided in late August not to put on any more festivals. Among the reasons cited were declining revenues and attendance, rising costs and increasing competition from other events.
