Skanska USA, the contractor of Three Mile Bridge, has confirmed that 22 barges were swept away during the storm. Several of those barges crashed into the 3-Mile, Chappie James Bridge, dropping several sections into the water and likely closing the bridge for several months. Those barges have washed up all along Pensacola Bay and Santa Rosa Sound. State Senator Doug Broxson told WCOA that a complete assessment of the damage to the bridge has been delayed until it is safe for divers to enter the water to inspect the pilings that were struck by barges.
