3-MILE BRIDGE DAMAGE

The Florida Department of Transportation says at least seven spans of the Pensacola Bay Bridge will have to be partially or fully replaced because of damage sustained during Hurricane Sally. Several barges owned by Skanska USA, the contractor building the new bridge, broke loose from their moorings and collided with the Bridge during the storm. Three of the contractor’s barges are still on or under the bridge, which will likely be closed for several months. FDOT said five spans will have to be replaced and two others will require partial replacement. The timeline for completion of repairs remains unknown.
