NO GULF BREEZE – PENSACOLA FERRY SERVICE

The Florida Department of Transportation says it will not fund a temporary ferry service between Gulf Breeze and Pensacola. FDOT said that the agency has determined the ferry service is not financially viable based on the number of people who would use it. That means drivers will have to continue to use the Garcon Point Bridge or Highway 87 in Navarre while the damaged Pensacola Bay Bridge is being repaired. Florida State Senator Doug Broxson said it is estimated a subsidized commuter ferry service would cost $40,000 per day. FDOT said Wednesday it expects the repairs to the bridge will be completed by March 2021.
