The Escambia County Sherriff’s Office says a man accused of raping a woman in Escambia County in 2009 has been arrested. In September 2009, the victim reported she went to a home with a friend where she was drinking alcohol and believes someone drugged her. She says she was in and out of consciousness when she was raped by two men. 37-year-old Aaron Bates was developed as a suspect and warrants were issued for his arrest. In 2014, a match was made with Bates’ DNA and he was found to be serving time in Mississippi for unrelated robbery charges. When his sentence was completed, he was charged with sexual battery and is being held in the Escambia County Jail without bond.
